In January I spend three weeks at the Huerta - three weeks that were very intense and educational for me. My time here was my first wwoofing experience, and I probably couldn't have chosen a better place for it. I felt very well integrated and welcomed from the very beginning. The weekly meetings provided a lot of structure and helped me to get an overview of everything. Kerry and Tanya manage to present tasks clearly for everyone to see without giving the impression that you have to work through them mindlessly – quite the opposite! Your own ideas and suggestions are very welcome! I am taking a lot away from this experience and wish all future Wwoofers just as great a time as I had!

Thierry and Benedicte were very kind to us, and I spent a pleasant two weeks on the farm. We ate fresh, organic food, either homegrown or bought from local producers. They prefer a vegan-style diet, but Benedicte made an effort to provide me with meat-based meals more frequently. We never lacked food; they even packed us sandwiches whenever we went on a trip. Transportation and Logistics When time and opportunity allowed, they drove us themselves or at least took us to the bus stop by the highway. The local public transport is terrible—buses are constantly late, and the drivers don't speak English. So, if you want to make the most of your free time, it’s worth renting a car. You also have the opportunity to use the washing machine a few times a week. The Keltter, I stayed in the small cabin up in the keltker area. The signal is good there, so I had no trouble using the internet or making calls, whereas the lower areas don't always have reception.On the first day, I didn’t have electricity, but they fixed this quickly. They bought a small fan heater and an extension cord, which allowed me to heat the room, have light, and charge my phone.There is a private shower at the cabin, but hot water is only available if it’s warm enough and the sun is shining. There is a private tap and an outhouse (pit latrine).Next to the two lower accommodations, there is a modern bathroom with a hot-water shower and a flush toilet. It felt like going on vacation to visit my own Grandparents.

Ich war im Januar für drei Wochen auf der Eco-Finca Samarrita und habe mich vom ersten Tag an sehr wohlgefühlt. Steffi und Adrian sind sehr offen, herzlich und respektvoll, und man kann mit ihnen über alles sprechen. Auch das Wwoofer-Zimmer ist sehr gemütlich eingerichtet. Meine Aufgaben waren sehr abwechslungsreich und haben mir immer Spaß gemacht. Ich durfte unter anderem Unkraut jäten, Beete vorbereiten, verschiedenes Gemüse und Kräuter ernten und pflanzen, mich um die Nelken kümmern, bei den Bienen helfen, gemeinsam mit Adrian ein neues Wassersystem für das Kartoffelbeet verlegen und einen Baum pflanzen. Besonders schön fand ich, dass mir auch viel erklärt wurde, sodass ich wirklich viel lernen konnte. Insgesamt war mein Aufenthalt auf der Eco-Finca Samarrita eine sehr wertvolle Erfahrung, an die ich gerne zurückdenke, und ich würde jederzeit wiederkommen.

I came with some farming experience, but this was my first time WWOOFing. Sustainability and land conservation are fundamentally defined in Xosé's decision making and you can tell the land and the animals are loved here. I feel fortunate to have enjoyed la granja with such kind, hardworking people. My guest appearance at Casa da Fonte was fun; it was sweet. I learned a lot and laughed even more.

My 3 week stay with Carmen and Jason in Villandás was such a special experience that means so much to me. I felt so comfortable and welcome from the beginning, with their calm and gentle presence and willingness to share. Their permaculture garden is well established and it was inspiring to observe and be involved in the operations of it. The work was flexible and interesting, with a relationship of trust and freedom whilst maintaining structure and guidance for how and what tasks needed to be carried out. This really suited me and I enjoyed each task greatly. Their home is very cozy, and it was such a joy to prepare and share meals together, their authentic lifestyle revolves around the kitchen which was beautiful to be part of. Sharing the space was easeful and respectful. Villandás is a pleasure to observe and explore around, I was also lucky enough to join in on a hike through snow covered mountains nearby. Thank you for welcoming me into your home, looking forward to returning one day, especially to see the garden flourish in the warmer months!
