Family home and garden - rural, Market Garden, Orchard, Family farm
Murcia
Please, we cannot dwell volunteers for less than 3-4 weeks... so that, please, do not apply if you do not have at least that while available, gracias!
La Era de Oxox is an organic farm in the heart of the Ricote Valley, also known as Moorish Valley. It's around 3 Ha are limited by the River Segura and the protected mountains of La Navela and Sierra de Ricote. It's a amazingly beautiful spot and there's a lot of work!
The farm is mostly orchards with citrics and summer fruits. There is also a veggie garden for our regular consumption. We also run a lovely little house to rent, the Perintin Cottage, Three adults and a child, born in October 2011, live permanently at the house in La Era. The tasks are varied and neverending: from manuring, mulching and harvesting lemon, oranges, apple and olive trees, to rebuilding stonewalls, paths and watering channels, maintaining and tidying up the houses and their surroundings, fixing walls and tools, and, sometimes, playing with and taking care of the child... some help with social media, webpages, etc. will also be welcome.
We ask volunteers to work 5 days a week, 4-5 hours per day, as well as cooperating with cooking and housework and with keeping the place tidy and pleasant for us and for the regular visitors we have. Thursdays and Saturdays are the days off (of course all flexible, once we talk about it a bit in advance).
As there are always lots of work to be done all year round and we share our home with the wwoofies, we love to host respectful individuals, openminded, active, tidy, meticulous, used to sharing contexts and adaptative, and not lazy about doing housework!, We join for most meals, which means we all shift to cook and tidy up afterwards, so that if you are good at cooking, cool! And there are always fresh veggies available at home!, We love it when volunteers chose a particular task as theirs and finish them during their staying, so that is one less thing to be done and the volunteer's imprint forever! ;)
As you can see on the photos and maps, La Era de Oxox is part of an astonishing and amazing landscape. The farm it is just a few meters from the River Segura at the foot of the spectacular Rocky Cliffs of El Chinte, and 10 minutes walking to the tiny village of Ojós. There are daily buses to get to Murcia, and plenty of trails, gastronomy and museums worth to know.
No dogs allowed, sorry; we have already two and they still do not understand well the concept of "woofing doggies" ;)
Please, do not apply for less than 3-4 weeks, as it's the minimum stay we can cope with! And do answer our messages ASP if you apply through visit request, pleaseee!
Gracias! Oxox Team
