Huerta de Los Almendros is a beautiful sanctuary where I have the privilege to I live. I work 8-6 as a teacher in Jerez so I have very little time to teach. I am open to volunteers coming for a short stay to work 2 full days over the weekend with me and be able to stay up to 6 nights in exchange. During September-February I would like longer stay volunteerst o help with the preparation for the olive harvest and pruning. Huerta de Los Almendros, a homestead, is about a life style, land and biodiversity restoration as well as transforming ourselves and our society. The lifestyle here is about Reducing water use. Reduce gas usage Cooking and preserving the harvest. Avoid food waste Being aware of electricity use. I look for people who would like to contribute to its beauty while living more conciously with Nature. As I am not around during the day, there are instructions but you need to be able to communicate well and organise yourselves independently and proactively. The site is 3 hectares, and is a 10 min walk to the centre of Medina Sidonia, a small rural town in Cádiz, Andalucía. Jobs January Pruning, chipping and building biorrollos. February April Pruning Weeding March Preparing Beds and planting April May Weeding June Mulberry harvest Weeding July August House maintenance Watering September Removing perennial invasives Watering Weeding October Removing perennial invasives. Preparing beds and planting, Olive harvest(not 2024) November December Weeding Planting Pruning All year round Feeding chickens and pets. Keeping communal places swept and tidy. This is shared amongst us all. Cleaning small pool Food Mostly vegetarian and in season. Languages Mother tongue English Fluent Spanish Work day 30 hours a week Sundays is often a full work day as I am around. You organise the rest of the time as a team. Most volunteers work in the morning and have the afternoon off. When the heat starts, to avoid it you have to start earlier. Over the years, we've found out things that we don't enjoy, so we ask you not to come if you can't keep the kitchen clean and tidy or don't like cats or dogs. We do a lot of cooking and bread making, so you need to be happy experimenting in the kitchen! I hate the smell of tobacco so non smokers preferred. Otherwise smoking is allowed outside, away from the communal living areas, We have reasonable Internet access but not high speed. After a short stay I am open to volunteers interested in discussing a long term stay Looking forward to hearing from you
