1. Describe your project, your place, and its inhabitants (including animals):We were able to buy this little eden about three years ago. It was love at first sight. The land has several ruins that need reformation, so it is a big project. Over the last three years we have rolled up our sleeves and started working on the land, transforming an overgrown patch into an orchard with treeguilds, transforming an existing forest into a food forest, with sheet mulching and a lot of sweat a veggie garden, moving with our chickens from Portugal to Galicia, digging Swales and building 3 wooden cabins so we can host more comfortable. We are slowly turning into an up-and-running farm, but following one of the permaculture principles: think of how it will be, not how it is right now. So we see ourselves as care-takers of this beautiful piece of land that we want to help it to regenerate, thrive, increasing biodiversity & live, share and provide good for the next generation. We have dogs, cats, chicken, ducks and soon three sheep.
2. List the activities that WWOOFers will participate in and what you want to teach them:
Gardening after permaculture principles, regenerating the soil, no machinery, no till.
Weeding by hand, no herbicides, no pesticides, sow cover cropping, installing Swales, taking care of chickens and ducks, helping to build an irrigation system, re-activate an old water channel, eco-construction and plant nursery. Looking after a tea and medicinal garden.
3. How will you feed and house WWOOFers? Please describe your accommodations and plan for meals:we provide food 3 times a day, freshly cooked, whenever possible with produce from our land. We have two wooden cabins with each a double bed that can host a couple, three camper van spots or a lot of space where we have tents and all camping facilities.
4. What could a WWOOFer's day look like at your site (time slot for participation in activities, expectations...)?We normally work from 10-3 or from 2-7. The rest of the day we spend whenever possible with the kids on the beach or doing excursions with them. You are welcome to join.
5. Play the guide! Talk about your own hobbies (music, cooking, etc.) and those possible around (hiking, swimming, etc.):we are a surfer family, so our lives are connected close to the ocean. We love all kinds of sports.
We enjoy cooking with fresh and local produce and are a very social bunch, but of course as a family of 3 we have to be considerate to our kids needs and private moments.
We live in one of the most beautiful corners of Europe with lots of hiking trails, stunning beaches and cultural heritage.
