Eco-retreat and permaculture farm in Extremadura
Badajoz
Hello WWOOFERS.... We are Jose and Ewan and we are the owners of the farm. We are situated in the south of Extremadura in the Sierra of Tentudia and our nearest village is Calera De Leon. We have lived here for 6 years and during this time have built our home and also a shepherds hut called 'The Chozo' that we rent out. We use solar panels for electricity and we have a well and a natural spring for water. The farm is 1000 metres above sea level with beautiful views and changes a lot across the four seasons.
We have large gardens within the farm, a vegetable patch and over 150 olive and fig trees, as well as sweet chestnut trees. As we live on a mountain, we do lots of landscaping to create flat terraces and do this by creating stone walls. We also have sheep and chickens and a range of other birds such as peacocks along with 5 dogs and 7 cats. WWOOFers will support us with animals in the morning and afternoon, cultivate the vegetable patch and pick fruits during the season and help with labour such as building stone walls, putting up fencing or landscaping around the gardens.
WWOOFers will sleep in our Yurt, which is 100 metres from the house. It has a wood burning stove for colder months and electricity. They have access to a separate kitchen area where they can make breakfast and dinner (food will be provided) and we will all eat a large meal together at lunch time.
Jose attends yoga sessions twice a week in a nearby village and does karate. Ewan plays tennis twice a week. Both like doing yoga on the farm too where we have built a large yoga platform. We make essential oil and use this to then make candles, balms, bath oils etc. The gardens are a big passion for Jose. As we are up in the mountain, there are lots of nice walks around the farm and we have an electric mountain bike too which is another way to explore the area. There are always fun things going on in the nearby villages which we encourage / support WWOOFers to go to so they get a sense of the culture within the area.
