Santa Cruz de Tenerife
An abandoned Avocado Finca in Los Llanos, La Palma. A place of more than 2 hectares, the plot having 50 metres width and 21 terrasses, each about 800 square metres. The plot stretches from 387 m above sea level to 436 metres.
The finca is very near to Los Llanos on the way to the caldera, so in the long run we expect many visitors. We cleared the space and having renovated both of the huge water tanks ( of 2000 square meter x 6,5 metres high) We have planted nearly 1000 trees, very many different varieties as the basis for a permaculture. The irrigation is finished with sprinklers but now we are adding the irrigation with droplets and hope to finish it soon.
In the irrigation tank we have planted swimming vegetable gardens (chinampas) and hopefully next winter we have fish swimming on a polyculture (waiting for the permission). Our Irrigation Pond will then turn to a fish pond with ducks, the water then being a fertilizer in itself. The other irrigation pond will be a water landscape for children and grown ups alike, close to this the terrasse will be an edible garden. This collecting tank now has a boulder area fixed where we want to invite the local children. The first swimming terraces are finished.
In our vegetable garden we do have enough to feed ourselves and more people.
We have many chicken of an old and local race and some rabbits. Now it is time to look forward to plant all the different varieties of all old sorts of vegetables. This means also that we have to start some collecting on the seeds of the varieties, which grow very good here.
We have build a clay oven and started with a clay house, which is waiting for a carpenter. Started with a shower/toilette area for the camping place to come.
We would be happy to find wwoofers who would like to work for a longer period of time - if someone has experience in permaculture or likes to build up some devices the better!
For summer we would like to offer courses for local children. Climbing, stand up paddling, cooking, gardening, etc..., any idea is welcome.
