We are a German couple, 62/64 years old and have been living on a large, eco finca in the green north of Tenerife (Canary Islands) since 2013. The finca is located in the middle of the famous Orotava Valley, close to La Orotava with spectacular views to the sea. We bought the finca, which had not been run for 30 years, and completely rebuilt it. We love our garden, experiment a lot and are open to new things. We value peace and quiet, act sustainably and responsibly, pass on our knowledge but also like to learn. Our household includes three friendly dogs and a cat, all of which are of high value to us. WWOOFer should be able to handle dogs or cats, have no fear of them or allergies. We are not a community, and value our privacy, which we also give to our volunteers. We are non-smokers and also prefer non-smokers in our environment. THE FINCA The finca is nearly about 15.000 square metres, located in the north of Tenerife at just below 500 metres above sea level in the famous Orotava Valley. We planted about 400 fruit trees, many vegetables and countless herbs from all over the world, so that we cultivate and constantly add to over 250 different types of crops. Part of the finca was expertly planted as a permaculture in the form of a food forest. The finca is run according to ecological principles and is self-sufficient. The finca is not run commercially. LOCATION The finca is located about 2 km next to La Orotava, which can be reached in about 5 minutes by car or 20 minutes on foot. From La Orotava there are numerous bus connections in all directions. Orotava also includes the entire Teide National Park with its countless hiking routes. Puerto de la Cruz and the beach can be reached by car in about 10 minutes or easily by bus. ACCOMODATION We offer our volunteers accommodation in a 30 square meter yurt, which is furnished in a cosy Moroccan style. Nearby are sanitary facilities (shower/WC). Furthermore there is a wooden trapper lodge for 2 persons, a hobbit house and currently we are shortly before to finish our project of a comfortable tree house. If the weather is suitable, you can also sleep in your own tent or camper van. CATERING In Germany we operated a small group of restaurants and on our finca we prefer an international, but mostly German/ Mediterranean cuisine. Additional to a small coffee or tea breakfast with some fruit we eat 2 times a day (brunch/ dinner) taking as much as possible from the garden. As this is not always possible, we also buy fruit and vegetables, paying attention to good quality, which however does not automatically have to be "organic". We are flexitarians, but mainly eat vegetarian food, rarely meat or fish. We offer our volunteers to dine with us. Currently, there is no opportunity for our volunteers to cook for themselves. THE WORK The finca is well organised and well equipped on a technical level. It is fully operational and the work is in the area of gardening/ maintenance/ technology/ cleanliness/ new projects. Seasonally, the focus is often more on the management of weeds, fruit tree pruning, maintenance of the irrigation system, care of the tree slices, harvesting, woodwork, work in the workshop, but also cleanliness and tidiness of the finca. Some of the work we do together, other parts we leave to the volunteers after thorough instruction. Generally, we do not expect anything from our volunteers that we do not do ourselves. Volunteers have the possibility to learn, help and participate for about 25 hours a week in the usual chores at the finca. MAJOR PROJECTS Projects for 2026 include building and finishing a tree house for our WWOOFers. A major project is the development of our permaculture garden with a food forest with tropical fruits. And of course the ongoing development of our finca with over 400 fruit trees, numerous vegetables and herbs. LEISURE TIME Time after work, as well as weekends are considered free time for our volunteers. Tenerife offers an incredible variety of leisure activities. These include hiking trails and black sandy beaches as well as surfing, sailing, scuba diving or, in the luxury segment, motor kite flying, accompanied kite flights, motorbike tours, catamaran sailing, etc.. Or only enjoy the finca with a good book in your hand ... :) We are happy to provide our volunteers with tips on the highlights of Tenerife, which you can hardly find yourself as a tourist.
