When we first set eyes on this magical piece of land two years ago, it was love at first sight. This land on the Camino de Santiago (Camino Ingles) by the river and near endless beautiful (surfing) ocean beaches holds all the possibilities for our vision of what we call 'the good life' to come to life. We found our Eden! A place where we connect with ourselves, others and nature. A place where food and people grow naturally and organically. But for now, we are starting with growing a garden (and practicing patience ;-). Planting new trees, adding understory and large trees to an existing fruit tree orchard with the aim of transforming it into a food forest. Adding flowers, mushrooms, vines, moving nutrients to where they are needed most, turning pasture into garden beds, building paths, rewilding parts of our land and adding lots of food and shelter for the many little and not so little gritters that share this land with us - all in the spirit of adding more than we take. If this speaks to you, then come and visit and maybe join us for some time! Organic methods: Stinging nettle for fertilizers and pest and fungus control, Ladybugs, chickens and ducks for pest control, planting plants in supportive groups to avoid pests, fungi and support growth, flower meadows for pollinators... Current projects: Having only bought our place one year ago, we are still in the building up phase. Besides ongoing maintenance of the garden, orchard and animals (feeding, watering, weeding, fertilizing, prevention and treatments of pest and disease, harvesting, preserving and enjoying the fruits of our labor) and typical seasonal work (seeding annuals, harvesting, preserving and pruning) we will also soon start on the following projects: Felling current hedge and replanting with ecologically more beneficial plants Turning our orchard into a food forest by planting understory, introducing large trees, vines and mushrooms Building climbing aids Adding more and new species to the garden diversifying with perennials and others offering food to humans (us), animals and the overall ecosystem. Cleaning out and maintaining the canal that runs through our property. Building out a yoga studio, Sauna, and guest house is our priority this year so we welcome WWOOfers with home improvement/construction capacities - particularly in April/May when we will be working on this. In June we will be running our first Yoga retreat and are looking for someone who could support this with making breakfast and supporting with the logistics and daily tasks as well as preparing the place. In August we have an abundance of fruit and vegetables and would welcome someone in particular who could help us making jams, chutneys and preserves. We also have a 7 year old daughter and interest in connecting with children (and having some fun doing so) is a must when staying with us. Internet access available For 2024 we will be changing our approach a little: We will offer two intensive weeks in the year where we will open the farm to groups of volunteers to share, learn and work together. There will be yoga and meditation in the morning, circle in the evening, introduction and hands on teaching in the morning and work in the afternoon. Week 1 March 2nd to March 10 - I include the weekends for flexible arrival and departure. This is the main planting and sowing time. We will be preparing garden beds, sow, plant, prune trees and do whatever needs to be done at the beginning of the gardening year. Week 2 August 31st - September 8th - here too I include the weekends for flexible arrival and departure. This is the height of the harvesting. Here we will harvest, preserve (make jams, chutneys, juices, learn about storage without freezing, drying (teas and herbs). We will plant winter crops and prepare the garden for winter rest. At both times we welcome WWOOFers to stay longer after the intensive week. For the rest of the year, we particularly welcome Families with children between the ages of 4 and 12 who speak German, Dutch, Spanish or English to stay for longer periods of times. And particularly those who are toying with the idea to maybe stay longer. We are looking to build a little community here and have some land where one could build an additional house. If you are thinking to maybe move to this area, then please get in touch. We are specifically looking for a family with children, preferably from Germany or The Netherlands or Belgium. All others, please keep applying, particularly if you bring some building skills with you. We look forward to meeting some of you and are super grateful to all who have already come by and lend a hand. Take care all!
